Voice Lessons

What to Expect

All voice lessons will begin with a brief vocal and physical warm-up, which some students choose to do ahead of time.

Vocal exercises that may involve movement, breath, acting and noisemaking will be used to address repertoire concerns, or goals. Students are encouraged to record their lessons in either video or audio, and also ask the question, “Why?” at any time. As students’ skills progress, so do their vocal exercises. When students understand how their voices work, they can facilitate their own practice effectively.

We will select repertoire together, making sure that you love the music you’re studying and that it suits your goals. As a performer and teacher of many different genres including Western classical, musical theatre, jazz and popular contemporary styles, I draw from this background with each student I teach. I teach students to be versatile and flexible artists who can use their voice to create a variety of aesthetics, and that all singing aesthetics can work together harmoniously with an efficient instrument.
